Paint Gallons Calculator

Enter room sizes, doors, windows and coats to see how many gallons of paint and primer you need.

These tools give planning-level estimates from typical values and the details you enter. They are not quotes or engineering or safety advice, and results depend on your actual surfaces, their age and condition, products and local rules. Only a visit can confirm what a project needs, and we give you a written estimate before any work begins.

How it works

Four quick steps.

  1. 01

    Pick a starting room

Each room type loads typical sizes, doors and windows.

  2. 02

    Enter your sizes

Length, width and ceiling height in feet, plus doors and windows.

  3. 03

    Choose what to paint

Walls, ceiling, trim and an optional primer coat.

  4. 04

    Read the list

See gallons for each surface and a shopping list.

Tips

  • Measure the room, not the floor plan, and subtract large openings.
  • Two coats are common. Color changes may need primer and an extra coat.
  • Buy a little extra for touch-ups and keep the label.
Questions

About this tool.

Is this exact?

No. Coverage depends on the surface and the paint. Rough or dark walls use more, and new drywall soaks up primer.

How much does a gallon cover?

Many paints cover about three hundred fifty square feet per gallon on a smooth, primed wall.

Does it include trim?

Only if you tick it. Trim is estimated from the room perimeter and the doors and windows.
