Smooth, durable painting for built-in shelves, bookcases, window seats and mudroom storage, with deep colors and fine detail.
Built-in bookcases, window seats and mudroom lockers are the architecture of a home, and painting them makes a living room, library or entry feel custom. They are also fussy to paint: dozens of edges, inside corners, shelves that are stacked with books and surfaces that need to resist daily use. A deep navy or forest green built-in can anchor a room, and a crisp white one can bring light. The finish needs to be smooth and hard, which takes sanding, a bonding primer and an enamel that cures well in tight spaces.
We empty and mask the shelves, remove adjustable shelves for painting on sawhorses, fill nail holes and caulk seams between the built-in and the wall. We prime and spray or brush two coats of a hard enamel, paying attention to the insides of the shelving and the face frames. After curing, shelves are replaced, and we leave the room clean. We also coordinate with wall and trim colors so the whole room feels designed, and we can add details like beadboard backs and updated hardware.
Inside corners, shelf edges and face frames are brushed and sprayed by hand for a smooth, even coat.
Deep colors on built-ins look rich, and we test samples so the color works with your walls and furniture.
Enamel in enclosed shelving needs time to harden, so we plan cure time before books go back.
Beadboard backs, new hardware and updated trim can be added for a custom look.
